The Story of Aylan

Image
IT IS SAD!      Lives are being lost in the Mediterranean Sea each year. People are trying to flee their homes for a safe haven in another country and sometimes even another continent. This was the case of a Syrian child, a young child, who drowned and washes ashore in  the coast of Bodrum, Turkey. His tragic fate was reported by the Independent and the first image was one which shocked me after I had read the article. The image was of Aylan when he was alive, happy and full of joy; and a long life ahead of him. Aylan, on the left, was a sad casualty of a boat carrying refugees to Greece capsizing. I believe the article was started with this image as a symbol of innocence. Innocent lives are being lost in their efforts to reach a better life away from dictatorships or away from wars or Isis militants as was the case of Aylan and his family. This image was intended to pull on the emotions of the readers. For them to realize and ponder that kids are at stake as well and that their

Politics and Media in Belize

There are two main uses of media I see heavily when time for elections comes around. To me it is stupid that there is so much focus put into these methods of campaigning. I do not mean to say that it is bad. There are few to no other ways of getting the people to come out and vote but it is the over doing of it that bothers me. What am i talking about? Firstly, I talk about the excessive use of flyers and flags. The other thing is the propaganda they create for their parties, whether it be supporting their cause or making the opposition look bad.      When it is time for elections, all you see is red and blue. Every corner you turn to there is a flag, there is a banner, there is graffiti on the light posts or flyers. I mean, we get it. There is an election. The politicians' focus lie in getting the message to the people by any means necessary and to many it might work, but I think it is stupid. All the money used to get the message out there can be used to help the poor or save

Media Ethics

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VNV__mV38s           Above is a link to a music video which, to my own opinion and discretion is what is wrong with the media. This video is just one example of the general things that plague the media and to me, is slowly turning it into a business. I don't think this was the initial vision for media in any shape or form.          The central point of the song is that it is about homosexual people trying to find their place in the world. There is nothing wrong with that. I am all for support and let them be them, they are human beings after all. The artist, a member of the homosexual community himself, has freedom of speech and all rights to express himself. The problem here is the media. I don't mean to insult anyone; this is a media blog that will talk about what is wrong or good in the media and analyze it accordingly. I will not hold myself about talking about an issue it it means I will 'lose readers; lose viewers.'           T

To Post or not to Post

That is the question. That is supposed to be the question I should say. Sadly, this is not always the case. We live in a society where it is no longer a priority to think closely about what we are posting on the web. As many of you may know we live in a publish then filter society with all the technological advances of the century. We want to have the first scoop at a story. We want to be part of the lastest trend. We want likes.... Tons and tons of likes. I ask to what end. Being famous or recognized in the web and being alone and a stranger to those same people who give you those likes and hide behind a keyboard and a screen.           I think my position on the matter is clear but for arguement sake, I do recommend social media. It is a great tool, but, not the way it is being used and the amount of time it is being used. Social media is a fun way to spend a few hours looking at the doings of other people: their photos, memes, ideas, and even drama. It is what they want t

Who am I?

Good morning, good afternoon, good night. Regardless of when you are seeing this, thank you for reading this. I am new to this blogging life style but I am sure it is a fun and fruitful way to get a message across.           I am Moises Alejandro Martinez, age 20.  i was born to Barbara Jimenez and Hector Martinez on September 5th, 1997 in Belize City. We moved to Benque Viejo del Carmen from since I was 2 and have been living here ever since. Soon my family became a single parent family as I stayed with my mother while my dad left off to work. I graduated Mount Carmel Primary and High School with honors and am now studying and finishing my English and Liberal Arts Associates Degree.           For this summer course, I would love to know more on how media can brainwash people and instill a wrong ideology on them. I have taken the class 2 weeks and I have already
